Farouk Hosny Foundation Announces the Launch of the Fifth Round of the Arts Awards 2024 on 1 September 2023

The Farouk Hosny Foundation announced the launch of the Fifth Round of the Arts Awards for the year 2024 on 1st of September 2023 in the following branches: Painting, Sculpture, Art Critique, Photography, and Architecture. In line with the mission of Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture and Arts and the role of the civil society in supporting the cultural and creative sector, creating a new generation of creative artists and architects, in addition to nurturing and encouraging youth in various fields of arts, asserting that young artists will form Egypt’s cultural map in the near future.

Painting Award

The total value of the prize is EGP 100,000. The members of the judging committee are:

  • Dr. Aleya Abdel Hadi; Former Dean of the College of Architecture and Arts – the University of Petra – Amman, Jordan and Former Vice Dean of the College of Fine Arts for Postgraduate Studies and Research
  • Dr. Hussein El Shaboury; Fine artist and Expert in Design and Museum Presentation
  • Mr. Mohamed Abla; Fine Artist
  • Dr. Samir Fouad; Fine Artist
  • Dr. Ahmed Ragab Sakr; Former Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts – Minia University

Architecture Award

With a total of EGP 100,000, the awards are divided as follows: First Place: EGP 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a trophy; Second Place: EGP 30,000 (Thirty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation; Third Place: EGP 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation.

– Dr. Souhair Zaki Hawass; Professor of Architecture and Urban Design, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University

– Eng. Hisham El-Saudi; Head of Engineers Syndicate in Alexandria, and former Dean of Faculty Fine Arts, Alexandria University.

– Eng. Mohamed Abo Seeda; Architect and Head of the National Authority for Urban Harmony

– Eng. Hamdi El Stouhy; Public Building Design Consultant – Expert at the International Council on Monuments and Heritage ICOMOS

– Eng. Hatem Al Saeed; Architect and Recipient of the State Prize for Creativity in Architecture.

Sculpture Award

With a total of EGP 100,000, the awards are divided as follows: First Place: EGP 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a trophy; Second Place: EGP 30,000 (Thirty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation; Third Place: EGP 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation.

‏ The members of the Judging Committee are:

– Dr. Mohamed Al-Alawi; Former Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts for Graduate Studies and Research, Helwan University; and a full-time Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University

– Artist Nagy Farid; Fine Artist and Sculptor

– Dr. Essam Darwish; Professor at the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University

– Dr. Marwa Youssef; Professor and Former Head of the Sculpture Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University

– Artist Ihab El Labban; Sculptor, and General Supervisor of the Fine and Visual Arts Sector, Arts and Culture City

Art Critique Award

With a total of EGP 60,000, the awards for 2024 are divided as follows: First Place: EGP 30,000 (Thirty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a trophy; Second Place: EGP 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation; Third Place: EGP 10,000 (Ten Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation.

The members of the Judging Committee are:

– Dr. Said Tawfik; Professor of Aesthetics and Contemporary Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University; and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, and former Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture.

– Dr. Amal Nasr; Professor and Head of Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University

– Dr. Hany Abo El-Hassan; Professor – Faculty of Arts – Alexandria University; former Head of Cultural Development Fund Sector.

– Mrs. Fatma Aly; Writer and Art Critic

– Dr. Tarek Abdel-Aziz; Art Critic and Writer

Photography Award

With a total of EGP 100,000, the awards are divided as follows: First Place: EGP 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a trophy; Second Place: EGP 30,000 (Thirty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation; Third Place: EGP 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Egyptian Pounds) along with a certificate of appreciation.

Members of the Board of Trustees and Artist Farouk Hosny thanked the members of the judging committees for their effective participation and notable efforts in order to achieve the objectives that the Foundation strives to achieve. The Board of Trustees confirmed that the Foundation’s awards gain a remarkable artistic momentum in each round thanks to the extensive experience of the judging committees and their absolute impartiality, along with the growing eagerness of young artists and architects to take part in the competitions.
