Eligibility, Guidelines and Requirements

Applications for the Fifth Round 2024 of the Farouk Hosny Foundation Art Awards need to be submitted by registering and filling in the following data through the application form available on the Foundation’s website as follows:

Painting Award – 2024

Application requests are accepted starting from (00:01am) on September 1, 2023 until 24:00pm on November 1, 2023, Arab Republic of Egypt time. No entries submitted after the stipulated time will be accepted.

Sculpture Award – 2024

Application requests are accepted starting from (00:01am) on September 1, 2023 until 24:00pm on December 1, 2023, Arab Republic of Egypt time.

Art Critique Award – 2024

Application requests are accepted starting from (00:01am) on September 1, 2023, until 24:00pm on November 1, 2023, Arab Republic of Egypt time.

Eligibility, guidelines, and requirements for the Fifth Round of the Farouk Hosny Foundation Art Awards for 2024

Applications for the Fifth Round 2024 of the Farouk Hosny Foundation for Culture & Arts Arts Awards are submitted through the competition registration page that can be accessed via the following link (http://apply.faroukhosnyfoundation.org).

Painting Award Competition

  1. The applicant must an Egyptian national between 18-35 years old by December 31, 2023.
  2.  The artwork submitted must be original and of recent production, no later than 2021, and the participant must own all intellectual and creative rights, taking into account innovation, creativity, and non-typicality.
  3.  The artwork is either [Watercolor – Oil – Acrylic – Mixed Media] only.  Each side of the artwork is not less than 80 cm and not more than 120 cm including the outer frame.
  4. The applicant must participate with 2 artworks, and if the applicant becomes a finalist, only one artwork will be selected for display
  5. The photo of the artwork uploaded in the application form shall be in JPEG or JPG format, of high quality and accuracy, clear and suitable for publication and printing, provided. The photo size should not less than 5 MB and not more than 10 MB, provided that the longest side of the image is not less than 2000 pixels and the quality is not less than 300 dpi
  6. The submitted artwork should not be a graduation project and has not previously exhibited or participated in any local or international exhibitions, competitions or virtual exhibitions and has never received any other awards or been presented to any judging committee.  Otherwise, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participating.
  7. Participation in the competition is considered an acknowledgment by the participant of knowing, agreeing, and complying with all terms and conditions. If it is proven that any of the competition terms are not adhered to, during or after announcing the awards, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participation. 

Sculpture Award Competition

  1. The applicant must an Egyptian national between 18-35 years old by December 31, 2023.
  2.  The artwork should be an original sculpture of modern production, no later than 2021, provided that the participant possesses all intellectual and creative rights and takes into account innovation, creativity, and non-typicality.
  3.  The applicant has the right to participate with 2 artworks, and if the applicant becomes a finalist, only one artwork will be selected for display.
  4. The artwork must be balanced and coherent in structure with a description of the materials used and the dimensions of the work.
  5. To upload 3 images of different angles for each participating artwork, and any uploaded photo of the artwork, in the application form, should be in JPEG or JPG format, of high quality and resolution, clear and suitable for publication and printing, provided that the photo size should not be less than 5 MB and not more than 10 MB, and that the longest side of the image is not less than 2000 pixels and the quality should not be less than 300 dpi.
  6. To upload an optional short 360 short video showing the participating artwork from all angles, that is not longer than 60 seconds.
  7. The submitted artwork should not be a graduation project and has not previously exhibited or participated in any local or international exhibitions or competitions, has never received any other awards or has been presented to any judging committees.  Otherwise, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participating.
  8. Participation in the competition is considered an acknowledgment by the participant of knowing, agreeing, and complying with all terms and conditions. If it is proven that any of the competition terms are not adhered to, during or after announcing the awards, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participation.

Art Critique Award Competition

  1. The applicant must an Egyptian national between 21-40 years old by December 31, 2023
  2. The study should be a fine art critique produced recently by the participant, in the Arabic language, and backed up by photos of the artworks and of no more than 3000 words.
  3. The applicant has the right to participate with only one fine art critique, without having any signs or indication about the applicant’s identity, and the participant must own all intellectual and creative rights to the study.
  4. The field of study is open in the visual arts, taking into account the elements of originality, innovation, broad vision, intellectual dimension, creativity, accuracy, the integrity of language, non-typicality, and the link between the global and local contexts.
  5. Documenting the sources, references and studies that are used in preparing the study, (if any), and indicating them as citations in their references in the body of the research and listing them on a serial references page at the end of the study.
  6. The text file of the presented critique study must be uploaded in Microsoft Word format, font size 12 and Times New Roman font, and pictures of artworks accompanying the subject of the study must be attached in JPEG or JPG format, of high quality and accuracy, clear and suitable for publication and printing, so that no less than the size of the image is not less than 5 MB and not more than 10 MB, provided that the longest side of the image is not less than 2000 pixels and the quality is not less than 300 dpi.
  7. The study should not have previously participated in any local or international competitions or obtained any other prizes, and it should not have been quoted or extracted from a master’s or doctoral thesis. The Foundation has the right to take legal action when it becomes clear that cases of plagiarism, citation, and violation of intellectual property laws apply to one of the studies.
  8. Participation in the competition is considered an acknowledgment by the participant of knowing, agreeing, and complying with all terms and conditions. If it is proven that any of the competition terms are not adhered to, during or after announcing the awards, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participation. 

Architecture Award Competition

  1. The applicant must an Egyptian national and not older than 40 years old by January 1, 2024.
  2. The competition is open to architects, whether individuals or in teams – members of the Syndicate of Engineering- Architecture Division.
  3. In the case of team applications, the team can include architecture students, provided that the team members do not exceed 4 members, and that the representative of the group is a member of the Syndicate of Engineering – Architecture Division.
  4. Participation in the competition should be for a project entitled: A Second Life for Architecture and Urbanism “Revive Buildings and Areas of Value” and in compliance with the Terms of Reference (TOR) and the competition terms, conditions, and rules.
  5. The submitted projects must be original, not copied, and produced by the participant, and the participant must possess all intellectual and creative rights, and take into account in the submitted projects innovation, creativity, and non-typicality.
  6. Each applicant as individual or team has the right to participate with one project only, provided that the submitted projects are free of the name, personalization or any indication of the application identity.
  7. The project is presented on 4 Landscape A1 panels (84 x 59.4 cm) combined into one PDF file with a high quality of not less than 300 dpi, and an Arabic report, of not more than 2000 words on A4 size pages, should be attached, and must include a presentation and explanation of the design idea and studies conducted by the applicant, as explained in the organizational procedures on the Foundation’s website. If the project passes to the semi-final stage, the applicant will be asked to print it.
  8. The participant has the right to submit an animated presentation (optional) of the submitted project with a duration of not more than 120 seconds.
  9. The participating architectural design must be modern and has not previously received any awards, whether in local or international competitions or any other awards, and has not been previously used for any commercial purposes.
  10. Participation in the competition is considered an acknowledgment by the participant of knowing, agreeing, and complying with all terms and conditions. If it is proven that any of the competition terms are not adhered to, during or after announcing the awards, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participation.

Photography Award Competition

  1. The applicant must an Egyptian national between 18-35 years old by December 31, 2023.
  2. The artwork should be photographic and produced by the participant, taking into account innovation, creativity, and non-typicality.
  3. The competition is open to established and amateur photographers in all branches of photography, including direct or composite photographs, provided that the applicant possesses all intellectual and creative rights.
  4. The photographs are of recent production, no later than 2022, and all components and elements of the photograph are produced by the photographer.  The Judging Committee has the right to request RAW files from the participant to verify the origin of the photos.
  5. The applicant has the right to participate with a maximum of 3 photographs. If the applicant becomes a finalist, the Judging Committee has the right to choose only one artwork from them for display.
  6. Mobile photography and photos that include a self-portrait of the applicant or signs indicating his/her identity or includes any writing or signature of the photographer or any other marks will not be accepted.
  7. Any uploaded artwork photo can be color, black and white, or composite and must be in JPEG or JPG format, of high quality and resolution, clear, and suitable for publication and printing. The photo size should not be less than 5 MB and not more than 10 MB, provided that the longest side of the image is not less than 2000 pixels and the quality should not be less than 300 dpi.
  8. If the photos qualify for the semi-final stage, the applicant will be requested to print them in high quality and good output, and the print photo should not exceed 50 x 70 cm and must be framed in a 2 cm black flat frame.
  9. The submitted artwork must not be a graduation project and has not previously participated in any local or international competitions, received any other awards or was presented to any judging committees and it should not have been displayed, published, or dealt with on any of the various media or social networking websites.
  10. Participation in the competition is considered an acknowledgment by the participant of knowing, agreeing, and complying with all terms and conditions. If it is proven that any of the competition terms are not adhered to, during or after announcing the awards, the work will be automatically excluded and the award will be withdrawn and forbidden from participation.
